What is the course about?

Succession is about the rules governing the transmission of property on death. Pressing issues that are covered include ‘who can inherit’ and ‘how can wills be challenged’. This course also takes a broad look at succession, covering areas such as estate planning for small business.

Why does the subject interest you?

At the end of the day, it interests me because everybody dies so it affects us all!  The law is a mixture of common law equity canon law and legislation. Furthermore a country’s succession law will tell you what it thinks is important; we do some comparative succession law to examine these differences between cultures.

Do you have any advice for students who are interested in the course?

Most students find this course challenging but fascinating and ask why it isn't compulsory. It is worth putting effort in as the course rewards effort.

How will this course be relevant in the future?

Again, everybody dies! As the population gets older the rate of will-making increases. Consequently, there is always work in this field.
