How good’s procrastinating from doing uni work by snapchatting and messaging your friends?

If you answered “not very, I should change but I know I won’t”, then the following might be for you!

‘Switching off’ can take various forms, but perhaps the most common for younger generations has to do with technology. Yes, we’ve all heard about the ‘dangers of social media’ and that it distracts from our work, but it has an effect which is often overlooked: general wellbeing. Trying to ‘switch off’ from social media purely for the purpose of studying unquestionably has its benefits, but doing it during a period of rest such as the holidays can have a more potent effect. Taking the time to ‘switch off’ means not having to worry about the updates or messages of other people, and can be extremely helpful for the crucial function of being introspective with ourselves.

However, we are also huge advocates of ‘switching off’ from uni and work. We all claim that we don’t have the time, but taking a moment away from the pressures of law school, readings and extracurricular activities can give us the break we need to maintain our wellbeing. As a further incentive, switching off can also make us work more effectively for when we do have to be switched on. That’s why we are encouraging you to make the most of the upcoming reading week and midsem break to ditch the law library and switch off for a few moments!
