About the Law Society

The UNSW Law Society is the peak representative body for all students in the Faculty of Law. Nationally, we are one of the most respected student-run law organisations, attracting sponsorship from prominent national and international firms. We seek to develop UNSW Law students professionally, personally and socially and help students to aspire towards their professional and personal paths. UNSW LawSoc is proud to celebrate a rich diversity of students with a multiplicity of aims, backgrounds and passions. We seek to represent, support and enrich our diverse cohourt through the great number of activities, publications and events LawSoc hosts every year.


What we do


STUDENT ACADEMIC LIFE

  • Effective representation of student interests to the Law Faculty administration, nationally and internationally through our affiliates
  • Publication of regular student newsletters, magazines and guides
  • Co-ordination of a variety of competitions including mooting, negotiation, trial advocacy, client interviewing and paper presentation competitions
  • Catering for international students and students with a keen interest in a career abroad through specific enrichment events and an international careers guide
  • Organisation of a regular Speakers' Forum to provide students with exposure to prominent figures in society
  • Recognising the interests of female students through the promotion of women's groups and running the Women's Mentoring Program
  • Funding the LawMSN Mentoring Program, and Schools Legal Education Group


STUDENT SOCIAL LIFE

  • Organisation of a diverse array of popular social events, such as the Annual Law Ball, Lawlapolooza and sponsor barbecues
  • Funding of cultural events such as the Law Revue


CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT

  • Publication of a range of employment guides such as summer clerkship, paralegal, international careers and government and alternative careers guides
  • Promotion of career awareness through our Career Development Program, careers fairs and information seminars Social Justice and Community Initiatives
  • Association with UNICEF, World Vision and other selected charities
  • Raising money and supporting programs for indigenous students such as the Indigenous Pre-Law Program, Indigenous Mentoring Program and the Aboriginal Education Program
